Hello NCHS Parents and Students,

A warm welcome to our incoming freshmen and new families as you become part of our school community. We are grateful you have chosen NCHS and look forward to partnering with you.

To our returning students and families, we can’t wait to see you again!

I hope that summer has been a time of rest, but more than that, a time of deeper experience with God. This summer, a personal mountain biking accident left me with injuries that are taking time to heal. This forced rest has provided me the opportunity to pause and reflect on all of God’s goodness and faithfulness. I’m thankful to say I’m recovering well and getting my energy back, and on behalf of the NCHS staff and faculty, we are anticipating a very successful school year!

Spiritual Theme

Toward the end of last school year, Mrs. Beers collaborated with the Outreach students to develop the year’s spiritual theme: Be the Church. The theme is inspired by Romans 12:4-5:

“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”

Our students wanted to have an emphasis that, as the body of Christ, we are called to serve one another and to come together as one body. This theme aligns very well with one of our goals for the year to intentionally equip our student leaders—especially our entire senior class and Student Council—to model Christlike leadership and discipleship. This year’s theme is a call for all of us—students and staff—to actively live out our faith together as the body of Christ. Below is a graphic that several students designed to accompany the theme:

Cell Phone Guidelines 

This is a reminder that the purpose of our Cell Phone Guidelines is to continue to foster a learning environment where students are fully engaged, free from unnecessary distractions, and able to build healthy habits of self-discipline, personal responsibility, and respectful interactions with others. The guidelines are found in the Parent–Student handbook, which will be sent out to families before the first week of school.

As last year, all students must place their cell phones and earbuds in the designated device carts located in the hallway before the first class of the day.

Before school begins, we ask that parents/guardians complete our Cell Phone Agreement form, indicating whether your student will bring a cell phone to school or will be keeping it off-campus. A designated space will be assigned in our device cart, which is stored in the office throughout the school day.

Freshman Meet-and-Greet: Wed., Aug. 19, 12:00–1:30 pm in the NCHS Gym and Student Commons. Freshmen will meet some staff members and will be assigned to leadership students who will share great tips on how to be a successful high school student. Students will also be assigned a locker and taken on a tour and, best of all, free lunch! This event is intended for students only. Parents are not expected to attend.

Back-to-School Night: Thurs., Aug. 27, 5:00–7:00 pm. This will be a time to visit with teachers, see classrooms, receive a syllabus for each class, and for the entire family to enjoy hot dogs, chips, and a drink.

Parent Orientation: Wed., Sept. 9, 6:30–7:30 pm. This is a valuable time to go over important things to know for the upcoming school year. All parents are welcome to attend, but it is especially critical for freshmen parents, parents of new students, or parents who have not previously attended.

Homecoming Week: Homecoming week is sooner than usual. Save the date for our Homecoming Dance on Sat., Sept. 19. Be on the lookout for an email from Activities Director, Kaitlin Carlisle, with more details.
