NCHS school building

July 31, 2025

Hello NCHS Parents and Students,

It has been great seeing students here at the school participating in multiple sports activities over the summer to stay active. We look forward to another school year coming up soon!

Spiritual Theme

The leadership and outreach students determined that the spiritual theme for this school year will be Heart Posture. What is unique about the spiritual theme is that they have chosen five different verses to go along with the theme (Phil 4:6-7; Ez 36:26; Matt 5:8; Prov 4:23; Jn 14:27). I encourage each student to take some time to read the verses before school starts.

My own thoughts turn towards the Scripture that proclaims that we love Him because He first loved us. In turn, our heart posture is such that we are in a loving relationship with God, our Creator, who made Himself low by becoming a human and sacrificing Himself on our behalf. We anticipate a rich time of learning and growing during our weekly chapel times and small group meetings as we talk about concepts surrounding this theme.

Cell Phone Policy Update

This upcoming year we will be changing our student cell phone policy. Students are permitted to use their cell phones at school in an appropriate manner before school begins. They will place their cell phones and ear buds in the designated spot of their first class of the day before class begins. Cell phones and earbuds will be kept there until students come to pick them up at the end of the school day. Cell phones shall be silenced in airplane mode. If you are unfamiliar with last year’s policy, we allowed students to take their phones with them throughout the day. There is a wealth of research that has led us to make this decision and our ultimate goals are to increase student attention throughout the school day and for students to have more positive face-to-face time with their peers during breaks and lunch.

Facilities Updates

We have been working diligently to update our Science Lab over the summer using auction funds from this past year. The space had very well-used cabinets and countertops which we have now been able to replace (before and after photos below). This provides a safe, clean, and beautiful space for student use. With technology funds this summer, we have been able to purchase new computers for each teacher in every classroom. We also continue to update two computer labs in the building that we use for our classes, such as Technology Applied, Intro to Engineering, AP Computer Principles, and also for student testing (i.e., AP testing, PSAT, SAT, etc.).

Freshman Meet-and-Greet: August 18th, from 12:00 to 1:30 pm in the NCHS Gym and Student Commons, we are having a Freshman Meet-and-Greet. Freshmen will meet some of our staff and will be assigned to leadership students who will teach some great tips on how to be a successful high school student. Students will also be assigned a locker and taken on a tour, and best of all—free lunch! All Freshmen are invited.

Back-to-School Night: August 28th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. This will be a time to visit with teachers, see classrooms, receive a syllabus for each class, and for the whole family to eat a hot dog.

Parent Orientation: September 10th, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. This is a valuable time to go over important things to know for the upcoming school year. All parents are welcome to attend, but it is especially critical for freshmen parents or parents of new students.
